Theory

Intro into the kite world; includes theory of wind (wind speed, wind direction, gusts, pressure systems) and ocean (currents, tides, rips), equipment set up and pack down, safety, and first piloting (kite control).

Body Dragging

Intro into the water; includes large kite handling, self-launching of the kite, self-rescue and all the different body drag techniques. This level is all about making you comfortable with piloting a larger kite while in the water.

Water Start

Board skills; includes, water starts and board riding techniques. This level will take everything you’ve learnt and put it together. Mastering board riding techniques, edge control, focus on riding with your core.

Pay Per As You Progress – Kitesurfing Course

Convenient for the spontaneous individual!

Our Pay Per Day option is targeted to those who’d simply like to pay as they progress. Or who are not sure of their travelling plans or work schedules and would rather not commit to set dates.

*Our Pay Per Day option allows you to start off the course, wherever your current experience level is at. Our instructors will do a short yet thorough review of your kite knowledge in order for them to gauge what level they should start you off on. Please see our 2 day3 day & 5 day courses, to see where you’d start off if you’ve had previous lessons.*

Please note* if you’ve had no previous kitesurfing lessons, you will cover the following on day 1:

DAY 1 (Land Based)

  1. Introductions with site assessment.
  2. Fundamentals of kitesurfing – wind, sea conditions & equipment.
  3. Power kite / trainer kite flying.
  4. Larger LEI* (water kite) setup.
  5. Safe kite launching / landing / steering techniques + pre flight checks.
  6. Guided equipment pack down.

Students to instructor ratio:

  • Group – 3:1
  • Semi Private – 2:1
  • Private – 1:1

IKO Kitesurfing Levels Completed in This Course

Level 1A

• Know safe wind directions and conditions for kiting
• Know hazards on a spot
• Set up a trainer kite
• Know the use of safety systems

 

Level 1B

• Have basic flying skills with trainer kite
• Launch and land the trainer kite with an assistant
• Twist and untwist the lines while flying the kite
• Walk and change directions while flying the kite
• Know the wind window

Level 1C

• Set-up a 4/5 line kite with a full de-power system
• Pre-flight check of equipment and settings
• In flight check of equipment and settings
• Understand and use the international communication signals
• Launch and land the kite to an assistant and as an assistant (4/5-line de-power kite)

 

Level 1D

• Control the kite hooked into the harness
• Understand the de-power system and can use the safety systems
• Advanced flying skills with the de-power kite
• Show full control of de-power systems in flight

Level 1E

• Pull quick release and activate leash
• Recover the bar and kite
• Self land
